Something like this was bound to happen. In the edition that just went out, the passage:

But still, less for count nouns (coins, pants, cars), fewer for mass nouns (water, honey, heartbreak), is basically the whole thing. That’s it.

Should have read:

But still, fewer for count nouns (coins, pants, cars), less for mass nouns (water, honey, heartbreak), is basically the whole thing. That’s it.

Brass eye, This is the one thing we didn't want to happen :  InsiderMemeTrading

Ironically, a very good example of a case where less and fewer are not interchangeable.
